Softball Game Preview: Caroline Cavaliers vs. James Monroe Yellow Jackets

Caroline has gone a perfect 8-0 against James Monroe recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Cavaliers will look to defend their home field against the Yellow Jackets at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Caroline has three straight victories, James Monroe has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Caroline's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed two weeks ago. They were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over Freeman.

The result came thanks to Jaidyn Tingen's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Caroline let Jordyn Wilkerson and Kami Hartsell run wild. Wilkerson scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Hartsell scored a run while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Hartsell a new career-high in doubles (two). Ava Anderson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.

Caroline was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Freeman only posted a batting average of .174.

Meanwhile, James Monroe came up short against Spotsylvania on Friday, falling 11-1.

James Monroe's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Caroline, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.

Caroline took their victory against James Monroe when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 8-2 score. Do the Cavaliers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Yellow Jackets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
