Baseball Recap: Timberland Wolves vs. Academic Magnet Raptors
Timberland had lost 12 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 0-16 to make it 13. They lost 12-3 to the Academic Magnet Raptors. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raptors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-2 on April 3rd.
As for Academic Magnet, the victory got them back to even at 7-7. Considering they have won five contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
For Academic Magnet's part, George Owen made a splash while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. Owen was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Academic Magnet let Ivey Cole and Heckman Tyler run wild. Cole got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Tyler went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Tyler is becoming a predictor of Academic Magnet's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 5-6 when he doesn't). Peters Max also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Timberland has already played their next match, a 17-2 loss against Lowcountry Leadership on the 30th. As for Academic Magnet, they will venture away from home to square off against Hanahan at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
