Basketball Recap: Messiah Manning's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Avalon over Southern Maryland Christian Academy

Avalon lost against Southern Maryland Christian Academy back in December of 2015 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Avalon Black Knights lost to the Southern Maryland Christian Academy Mustangs on the road by a 69-55 margin.

Avalon's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Messiah Manning, who posted 13 points. Luke Arulefela was another key player, putting up ten points.

Leading Southern Maryland Christian Academy to victory were Corey Hughley and Aaron McGlone. Hughley went 13 of 21 on his way to 28 points, while McGlone went 10 of 18 on his way to 23 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Johnie Griffin Lll, who put up seven points and five assists.

Avalon's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Southern Maryland Christian Academy, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3.

Avalon will take on KIPP DC Legacy College Prep in a tournament on Saturday. As for Southern Maryland Christian Academy, they will welcome Friendship Collegiate Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th.
