Baseball Preview: Riverview Sharks vs. Steinbrenner Warriors

The Riverview Sharks will be playing in front of their home fans against the Steinbrenner Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Riverview can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over Spoto. The win was just what Riverview needed coming off of a 10-2 loss in their prior matchup.

Meanwhile, Steinbrenner had just enough and edged Jefferson out 2-1 on Tuesday.

Kelton Meares and Cayden Hessemyer were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Meares tossed an inning while giving up no earned runs or hits (he also didn't allow any walks). Meanwhile, Hessemyer tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (he also only allowed one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive pitching appearances. At the plate, Meares scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Hessemyer went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Riverview's victory bumped their record up to 2-11. As for Steinbrenner, their win bumped their record up to 6-8.

Riverview suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Steinbrenner when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Thankfully for Riverview, Benjamin Geraghty (who struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk)) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
