Basketball Recap: Brayden Wheat and Noah Porter Secure Win for Anderson County

There's no place like home for Anderson County, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They came out on top against the Humboldt Cubs on Tuesday by a score of 57-53 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). This was a revenge game for the Bulldogs: when they faced off against the Cubs last Friday, they had to take a 57-53 defeat.

Leading Anderson County to victory were Noah Porter and Brayden Wheat. Porter dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 boards, while Wheat posted 23 points. Porter is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last eight games he's played. Aidan Steele was another key player, putting up six points.

Anderson County was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Humboldt only racked up five assists.

When it comes to explaining why Humboldt lost, don't look at Colden Cook. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tre Franklin, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 11 points and three steals.

Anderson County pushed their record up to 8-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.8 points per game. As for Humboldt, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-2.

Anderson County and Humboldt should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings. Anderson County (ranked 86th) will meet Central Heights (ranked 341st) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Anderson County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.9 points per game this season. Similarly, Humboldt will challenge Erie at 7:30 p.m. on Friday up 185 places (70 vs. 255).
