League recap: Leflore breaks off league-leading run for Olive Branch

6A Region 1 recap September 10, 2013

Olive Branch's Marcus Leflore recorded the longest rushing play in 6A Region 1 this season in his game against Charleston last week. Leflore's team bested the Tigers as he sprinted for 95 yards on the play and finished with 99 in all.

Tupelo was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping Shannon. The Golden Wave came in at 19 in the state poll after placing at number 29 last week.

Daniel Bristow and Quinn Tiggs gave Tupelo a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Bristow threw for 117 yards, while Tiggs ran for 141 yards. Teammate Reed Taylor added to the ground attack by rushing for 26 yards.

Bristow and Tiggs gave Trent Hammond's team a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week.

Tiggs was a passing and rushing force as the Golden Wave topped the Red Raiders.

Bristow put up the best numbers in passing as Tupelo topped Shannon.

Leflore was the best receiver in the league this week as Olive Branch defeated Charleston. Leflore racked up 3 receptions for 42 yards.

Tiggs was the best running back in the league this week.

Scott Samsel's team's Ross Trail and Dontavis Bruce have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 6A Region 1 in both passing and receiving yards. 6-3 quarterback Trail has thrown for 442 yards this season, while Bruce has 13 catches for 176 yards. Tiggs from the Golden Wave leads the league in rushing with 315 yards.

Hernando moved up to 76 from 111 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Tigers climbed the ranks as a result of defeating North Panola 75-26.
