Softball Recap: Fairfield Victorious

Fairfield came out on top against Goshen on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fourth inning. The Falcons walked away with a 9-5 victory over the RedHawks. The Falcons have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the RedHawks, too.

Faith Berkey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on 11 hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Madison Jones was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Aliviah Spencer, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Fairfield is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Goshen, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fairfield will challenge Churubusco at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Goshen, they will take on Northridge at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The RedHawks are facing the Raiders at the right time seeing as the Raiders are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
