Volleyball Recap: Ellie Kuhlman Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Troy

Lake Orion had to skate by with only a one-set margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the three-set drubbing they dealt Troy on Thursday. The Dragons were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Colts. The Dragons not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since November 6, 2024 (when they won 3-0).

The final score came out to 25-20, 25-13, 25-15.

Lake Orion's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ellie Kuhlman, who had six aces and one assist. Those six aces gave Kuhlman a new career-high. Caitrin O'Rourke was another key player, getting 15 assists and two aces.

They weren't the only good server: Lake Orion was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in four consecutive matchups.

Lake Orion's victory bumped their record up to 11-8-1. As for Troy, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-14.

Coming up, Lake Orion will square off against Clarkston at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Troy, they will face off against Notre Dame Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The last seven games the Fighting Irish have played have been within one set, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
