Baseball Game Preview: Willow Spring Storm vs. Corinth Holders Pirates

Willow Spring is 0-6 against Corinth Holders since April of 2022 but things could change on Thursday. The Storm will venture away from home to face off against the Pirates at 7:00 p.m. Willow Spring is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

Willow Spring had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt South Garner on Wednesday. The Storm never let the Titans get on the board and left with a 10-0 win.

Alex Smith looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Willow Spring let Tommy Collins and Rylan Sherrell run wild. Collins went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Sherrell went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two runs gave Sherrell a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryder Randolph, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Corinth Holders let Eastern Alamance stack six runs on them in the third inning last Wednesday but luckily Corinth Holders prevailed anyway. The Pirates won by a run and slipped past the Eagles 7-6.

Corinth Holders is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Willow Spring, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-8.

Willow Spring suffered a grim 11-5 defeat to Corinth Holders in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Storm avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
