Basketball Recap: Hillsboro Comes Up Short

Hillsboro and Auburn squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Hillsboro had to settle for second. They came up short against the Auburn Trojans, falling 76-51. While losing is never fun, the Hiltoppers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 455th, while the Trojans are ranked 64th).

When it comes to explaining why Hillsboro lost, don't look at Nathan Matoush. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 23 points and 15 boards. Jackson Tuetken was another key player, putting up eight points.

Hillsboro has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-19 record this season. Auburn's win bumped their record up to 28-4.

Hillsboro does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Auburn, they have already played their next contest, a 56-43 victory against Greenville on the 28th.
