Softball Recap: La Plata Takes Down Thomas Stone in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, La Plata rose to the challenge on Thursday. They never let the Thomas Stone Cougars get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won 11 matches by nine runs or more so far this season.

Rylee Dennison tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

On the hitting side, La Plata let Olivia Hutchins and Vivian Lloyd run wild. Hutchins went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI, while Lloyd went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Reese Menejia was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

La Plata always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

La Plata has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Thomas Stone, they dropped their record down to 5-13 with the loss, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

As of now, neither La Plata nor the Cougars have any future games scheduled.
