Softball Recap: Adelyn Matthews Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat West Port

While Chiles didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the West Port Wolf Pack a 26-0 shutout on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Timberwolves, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Anna Kate Barber made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Adelyn Matthews was a standout: she fired off two home runs, four runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-3. She has been hot, having posted three or more hits the last five times she's played. Lilly Morris was another key player, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-3.

Chiles kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in 12 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Chiles' record now sits at 6-1. As for West Port, their loss ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 4-3.

Coincidentally, Chiles and West Port will both be playing Freeport the next time they take the field. Chiles will head out to face Freeport at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, while West Port will play them later in the day, at 7:00 p.m.
