Softball Recap: Altamont Beats Piute for Their Eighth Straight Win

Altamont made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Piute, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Longhorns were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over the Thunderbirds on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Longhorns, who have now won four matchups by 15 runs or more so far this season.

Kiley Crapo made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Crapo was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Reaygen Miles, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Lacie Long was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Altamont kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.6.

The victory (which was Altamont's eighth in a row) raised their record to 8-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Piute, their loss was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-6.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Altamont beat the Thunderbirds by a score of 19-0 later that day.
