Alec Sommerer made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That hit marked the first that he has got this season.
Sommerer wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Chase Richard, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Dalton Mueller also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, St. Elizabeth didn't have quite enough to beat Iberia on Thursday and fell 5-4. The game marked the Hornets' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
St. Elizabeth also got a good showing from Aiden Otto, who pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest earned runs Otto has allowed since back in May of 2025.
At the plate, Kyson Green was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
St. Elizabeth's defeat ended a 14-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-3. As for Eugene, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
Eugene's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's matchup. The Eagles have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for St. Elizabeth, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Eugene continue to outrun the ball?
Eugene suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to St. Elizabeth in their previous matchup back in March of 2025. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
