Baseball Game Preview: Maize Eagles vs. Kapaun Mt. Carmel Crusaders

The Maize Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Kapaun Mt. Carmel Crusaders at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Maize is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

Maize is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Kansas' top teams: Bishop Carroll, who was ranked 12th at the time (Maize was ranked sixth). The Eagles beat the Golden Eagles on Thursday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 4-3. Winning may never get old, but the Eagles sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Zane Brungardt looked comfortable as he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ryder Zimmerman, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Parker Meirowsky was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

Meanwhile, Kapaun Mt. Carmel earned an 8-3 victory over West on Tuesday.

Maize's record is now 6-2. As for Kapaun Mt. Carmel, their record now sits at an identical 6-2.

Maize beat Kapaun Mt. Carmel 4-0 in their previous meeting back in May of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
