Softball Preview: Fredericktown Freddies vs. River Valley Vikings

The Fredericktown Freddies will head out on the road to challenge the River Valley Vikings at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. Fredericktown is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road.

Last Thursday, it was a hard-fought game, but Fredericktown had to settle for an 11-9 defeat against Danville.

Meanwhile, River Valley came up short against Clear Fork on Friday and fell 7-3.

Lanie Wooten put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up seven earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Wooten has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive pitching appearances. Wooten was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Wooten wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Samantha Woods, who went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Fredericktown's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-3. As for River Valley, their record now sits at 15-5.

Fredericktown came out on top in a nail-biter against River Valley when the teams last played back in April of 2023, sneaking past 8-7. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was River Valley's Riley Hamm, who struck out ten batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off nine hits.
