Newberry hadn't done well against Santa Fe recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Newberry Panthers narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Santa Fe Raiders 3-2. This was payback for the Panthers, who suffered a 0-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Newberry got a great performance from Luke Hartenstein as he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, Newberry saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aiden Michaux, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

The victory made it two in a row for Newberry and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Santa Fe, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Panthers take on the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Forest is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Santa Fe, they will face off against Columbia at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last four games Santa Fe has played (dating back to last season) have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
