Basketball Recap: Downey Snags Tenth Victory in Last 13 Games

There's no place like home for Downey, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They came out on top against the Norwalk Lancers by a score of 56-49 on Friday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 46-42 on January 7th.

Downey had a senior duo take command as Tyler Harris posted 18 points and eight boards and Frank Ibarra put up 11 points and four steals. The contest was Harris' 20th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Matthew Topete, who scored seven points.

Norwalk lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Aaron Reyes, who went 6 for 8 from beyond the arc on his way to 18 points. Those 18 points gave Reyes a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Diego Morales, who went 6 of 7 en route to 14 points and six rebounds.

Downey has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season. As for Norwalk, they moved to 15-9 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Downey has already played their next game (against Firebaugh), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Norwalk will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Bellflower at 7:00 p.m. Norwalk is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.2 points per game this season.
