Basketball Recap: Calvert Takes a Loss

Calvert lost against Northern back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Calvert Cavaliers took a 40-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Northern Patriots. While the Cavaliers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Patriots 13-6 in the first quarter.

When it comes to explaining why Calvert lost, don't look at Brooke Kidwell. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 boards. Kidwell is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last ten games she's played dating back to last season. Amani Welch was another key player, putting up three points and three steals.

Northern was led to victory by Alyassa Lane and Erin Murphy. Lane went 5 of 8 en route to 10 points and seven boards, while Murphy posted six points and 13 rebounds. Lane is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Avaya Fields, who had seven points.

Calvert has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Northern, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calvert will head out to take on Great Mills at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Northern, they will head out on the road to challenge La Plata at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Northern is facing La Plata at the right time seeing as La Plata is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
