League recap: Sunnyside tops McLane to extend winning streak

North Yosemite recap November 5, 2013

Adding to the longest winning streak in North Yosemite this week, Sunnyside beat McLane 35-21. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Wildcats.

Tristian Hernandez threw for 266 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 18-27 with 1 interception.

Kurtis McCoy was the best wideout in the league this week as Roosevelt topped Reedley. McCoy tallied 6 receptions for 101 yards. Ivan Martinez helped Roosevelt's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 68 yards.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Rough Riders' Hernandez and McCoy have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-0 quarterback Hernandez has thrown for 2,538 yards this season, while McCoy has 60 catches for 1,142 yards. Ronald Davis from the Highlanders leads the league in rushing with 800 yards.

An important game coming up in North Yosemite this week will be when Sunnyside takes on the Pirates. Jason Murray's team is currently in first, while Reedley is in fifth.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Wildcats take on Mike Vogt's team. Sunnyside has allowed 227 points this season, while the Pirates have given up 253. The Wildcats allowed 21 points last week as they bested McLane.

Pete Joseph's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,404 from 9,716. The improvement was the result of a 35-21 victory over the Highlanders last week.
