Softball Recap: Gar-Field Red Wolves vs. Potomac Senior Panthers

Gar-Field extended their losing streak to six on Friday, dropping their season record down to 3-14 in the process. They came up short against the Potomac Senior Panthers, falling 30-14. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 28-1 back in April.

Ariana Biddle led a balanced group of hitters, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Zuniya Chapman, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

As for Potomac Senior, they moved to 4-10 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. Their offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last four games.

On Potomac Senior's side, Ericka Hampson was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over five innings while giving up five earned (and nine unearned) runs off eight hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave Hampson a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Zuri Coleman was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, eight RBI, and five runs. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Kristian Caldwell was another key player, getting on base in all six of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.

Gar-Field does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Potomac Senior, they will take on Charles J. Colgan at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Sharks' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
