Basketball Recap: Lathrop Comes Up Short

Lathrop saw some tournament action on Saturday. They took a 66-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the McQueen Lancers. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 1019th in California, while the Lancers are ranked 36th in Nevada).

When it comes to explaining why Lathrop lost, don't look at Joseph Perkins. Despite the final result, he went 7 of 16 en route to 18 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Nicolas Arceo, who posted eight points.

Leading McQueen to victory were Olin Deweese and Abram Carpenter. Deweese went 10 of 17 on his way to 22 points, while Carpenter dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards. What's more, Deweese also racked up two steals, the most he's had since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Alex Hancock, who had ten points.

Lathrop's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for McQueen, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Lathrop didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 73-37 win against Franklin on the 9th. As for McQueen, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 76-48 victory against Carson on the 10th.
