Football Game Preview: Chaminade Flyers vs. Cardinal Hayes Cardinals

Chaminade is 1-7 against Cardinal Hayes since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Flyers will head out on the road to take on the Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Chaminade is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New York's top teams: St. Anthony's, who was ranked fourth at the time (Chaminade was ranked 13th). The Flyers received a blow on Saturday as they fell 33-19 to the Friars. While the Flyers had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Friars 16-7.

Sean Carnevale put forth a good effort for the losing side as he threw for 195 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His passing game has become a key predictor of Chaminade's success: the team is 2-1 when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 2-3 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Cardinal Hayes scored first but ultimately less than St. Peter's in their game on Saturday. They took a 29-18 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles. While the Cardinals didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Eagles 6-0 in the first quarter.

Chaminade's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Cardinal Hayes, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

Chaminade couldn't quite finish off Cardinal Hayes when the teams last played back in October of 2024 and fell 16-14. Can the Flyers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
