Basketball Recap: Yuma Takes a Loss

After flying high against Tempe last Tuesday, Yuma came back down to earth. The Yuma Criminals fell just short of the Gila Ridge Hawks by a score of 38-36 on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 53-38 back in January.

Kayla McCarrell was the offensive standout of the matchup as she went 5-for-11 en route to 12 points along with six boards and five steals. She is becoming a predictor of Gila Ridge's success: when she posts at least three steals the team is 7-1 (and 1-11 when she doesn't). Sarah Garner was another key player, putting up seven points and ten rebounds.

Yuma's loss dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Gila Ridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 8-12 record this season.

Yuma has already played their next contest, a 66-54 victory against Cortez on the 12th. As for Gila Ridge, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 39-11 win against San Luis on the 7th.
