Basketball Recap: Kenzie Doerr's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Plainview over Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard]

Plainview was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They came up short against the Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] Bobcats, falling 37-16. The Pirates were probably out for revenge after losing 37-33 to them when the teams met back in January of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Plainview's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kenzie Doerr, who posted eight points and five steals. Another player making a difference was Riley Miller, who put up two points in addition to 14 boards and three blocks.

Even though they lost, Plainview smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jenna Funk, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Funk a new career-high in blocks (four). Another player making a difference was Caydence Schumacher, who had eight points and nine rebounds.

Plainview's defeat dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard], their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-5.

Plainview will head out to take on Neligh-Oakdale on Friday. As for Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard], they will host West Holt at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
