Basketball Game Preview: Arlington Lions vs. Cabrillo Jaguars

The Arlington Lions and the Cabrillo Jaguars will face off at 1:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Arlington's tournament run continued when they took on San Clemente on Thursday. Arlington fell 76-65 to San Clemente. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 358th, while the Tritons are ranked 84th).

Meanwhile, Cabrillo was able to grind out a solid win over Costa Mesa on Thursday, taking the game 77-66. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Jaguars.

Arlington better focus on containing Lincoln Dean and Trustehn Lam Sam as the pair were huge in Cabrillo's win. Dean went 6 for 9 on his way to 14 points in addition to six assists and three steals, while Lam Sam went 6 of 9 on his way to 16 points and six boards. Dean is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Donovan Young, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 16 points and six rebounds.

Cabrillo's victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Arlington, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season.

Arlington strolled past Cabrillo in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 by a score of 60-46. Will Arlington repeat their success, or does Cabrillo have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
