Basketball Recap: Sioux City North's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak at Home

Sioux City North came into Tuesday's matchup having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They took down the Jefferson Yellowjackets 70-54 on Tuesday. Given the Stars' advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 148th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 304th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Several Yellowjackets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dom Grant, who went 8 for 11 on his way to 17 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Those assists marked the first that Grant's posted this season. Junior Gatkuoth was another key player, going 12 of 28 en route to 18 points and five boards.

Sioux City North's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-5. As for Jefferson, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-11.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sioux City North will host Bishop Heelan Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sioux City North knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Bishop Heelan Catholic likes a good challenge. As for Jefferson, they will welcome Sioux City West at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Jefferson is facing Sioux City West at the right time seeing as Sioux City West is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
