Softball Recap: Homestead Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Homestead put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Half Moon Bay Cougars a 4-0 shutout. This was payback for the Mustangs, who suffered an 8-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Not much got past Mackenzie Smith, who gave up just four hits to keep Half Moon Bay off the board. Smith has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Homestead's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Leela Menon, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Homestead hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in five consecutive games dating back to last season.

Homestead's record now sits at 3-0. As for Half Moon Bay, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Homestead will host Archbishop Mitty at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Archbishop Mitty's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Homestead's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Half Moon Bay, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Half Moon Bay Cougars challenge Santa Cruz Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
