Softball Recap: Bret Harte Victorious

With a playoff win on the line, Bret Harte rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They skirted past the Bear River Bruins 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bullfrogs have posted since March 25th.

Madison Kane spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kaliana Erdman was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Mariah Colwell was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Bret Harte is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Bear River, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season.

Bret Harte will square off against Argonaut at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bullfrogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season. Bear River does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
