Softball Recap: Rockwood Rockets vs. Shade Panthers
Rockwood had lost four straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 3-8 to make it five. They fell 9-4 to the Shade Panthers. The Rockets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Panthers earlier this season, when they won 13-6.
Miley Pletcher made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
As for Shade, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.
On Shade's side, Payton Maddy was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Maddy has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one triple.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Patty Kovacs, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Kara Wilson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Rockwood has already played their next matchup, a 10-5 win against McConnellsburg on the 22nd. As for Shade, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, an 11-3 victory against North Star on the 24th.
