AA Region VI recap Sept. 26, 2012
Bishop England was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in AA Region VI. Earlier in the week, the Battling Bishops defeated North Charleston 48-14.
Battery Creek moved up to 169 from 198 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Dolphins were able to make the jump by beating Ridgeland/Hardeeville 26-18.
Burke's dynamic duo of Stephon Taylor and Craig Williams proved tough for Garrett Academy Tech to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Taylor threw for 216 yards and two touchdowns and Williams had 92 yards receiving. Richard McNeil helped Burke's passing attack out by catching three balls for 64 yards.
Deo'vonte Doe was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 166 yards on 19 carries as the Jaguars lost to the Falcons. Teammate Marquis Griffin added to the ground attack by rushing for 48 yards.
Burke's Taylor and Davontae Wilder have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading AA Region VI in both passing and receiving yards. Taylor has thrown for 491 yards this season, while Wilder has 11 catches for 214 yards. Ridgeland/Hardeeville's Doe leads the league in rushing yards with 681.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Battery Creek takes on Bishop England. At the moment, Jim Shuman's team is in sixth, while John Cantey's team is in second.
The Battling Bishops led the league in scoring this week after putting up 48 points on the Cougars.
