Basketball Recap: Galena Takes a Loss

After soaring to 67 points the game before, Galena was a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They were beaten by the Spanish Springs Cougars 57-17. The game marked the Grizzlies' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Galena lost, don't look at Julia Imse. Despite the final result, she posted 12 points and seven rebounds. Imse has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played.

Spanish Springs found their leader in sophomore Aaliyah Vance, who went 7 of 9 on her way to 18 points and three steals. Vance continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Allison Hayes, who had eight points and five assists.

With the defeat, Galena broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-6. As for Spanish Springs, they pushed their record up to 8-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Galena wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 71-50 loss against North Valleys on the 4th. As for Spanish Springs, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 48-28 win against Bishop Manogue on the 6th.
