Baseball Recap: River Forest Has No Trouble Against Wheeler

River Forest barely beat Wheeler the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Ingots blew past the Bearcats 8-2 on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Ingots, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.

Brandon Fergerson made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one triple and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Walter Jaime was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of River Forest's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-6 when he doesn't). Sebastian Collazo IV was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

River Forest kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

River Forest moved to 8-6 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Wheeler, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-9.

River Forest will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bearcats: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
