Preview: Somers Spartans vs. Coventry Patriots
Somers and Coventry are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2017, but not for long. The Somers Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Coventry Patriots at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Somers will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
On Wednesday, Somers didn't have too much trouble with Windsor Locks at home as they won 66-51. Somers pushed the score to 58-38 by the end of the third, a deficit Windsor Locks cut but never quite recovered from.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Coventry's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 46-24 walloping at the hands of Ellington. While losing is never fun, Coventry can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while Ellington is ranked 20th).
Somers is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for Coventry, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.
Somers strolled past Coventry in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 by a score of 57-42. The rematch might be a little tougher for Somers since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
