Basketball Recap: Gillespie's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Gillespie won the last time they faced Mt. Olive and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Gillespie Miners snuck past the Mt. Olive Wildcats with a 75-69 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Miners as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Mt. Olive lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Max Grejtak, who went 6 of 9 en route to 15 points and six rebounds. Those 15 points gave Grejtak a new career-high. Another player making a difference was David Schoen, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards.

Gillespie's victory bumped their record up to 3-14. As for Mt. Olive, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-15.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gillespie has already played their next match (against East Alton-Wood River), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Mt. Olive will take on Tri-City at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
