Basketball Recap: Grand Valley Victorious

Grand Valley entered their tilt with St. John on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They pulled ahead with a 63-62 photo finish over the St. John Fighting Herald. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 295th, while the Fighting Herald are ranked 619th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Grand Valley pushed their record up to 12-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. As for St. John, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Grand Valley won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Harding at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Harding's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matches. As for St. John, they will take on Maplewood at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
