Volleyball Recap: Leopold's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

It was a good run, but Leopold unfortunately witnessed the end of their 11-match winning streak on Friday. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Notre Dame Bulldogs. The Wildcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

Leopold started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 25-27, 25-14, 25-20, 25-22.

Rylie Schreiner paced Leopold's offense, picking up 29 kills. Schreiner got some help from Ashtyn Van De Ven and her 40 assists. Schreiner was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.

Leading Notre Dame to victory were Carlie Shamoun and Claudia Jones. Shamoun had 17 digs and two assists, while Jones had 17 digs and four aces. Shamoun has been hot, having posted 11 or more digs the last five times she's played.

Leopold's loss dropped their record down to 19-2-2. As for Notre Dame, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8-2 record this season.

Leopold wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 defeat against Ste. Genevieve on the 4th. As for Notre Dame, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Advance on the 6th.
