Softball Recap: Fredericksburg Christian Now 6-1 over Last Seven Games

Fredericksburg Christian won the last time they faced Colonial Beach and things went their way on Thursday too. The Eagles put the hurt on the Drifters with a sharp 19-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won six matches by eight runs or more so far this season.

Scarlett Whittaker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rylie Johnson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. She is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Haylie Johnson was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Fredericksburg Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive contests.

Fredericksburg Christian is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Colonial Beach, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fredericksburg Christian will venture away from home to face off against Saint John Paul the Great Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Colonial Beach, they will face off against West Point at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
