Baseball Recap: Madisonville Comes Up Short

Madisonville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Rusk Eagles. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Izaiya Drake was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Those hits were his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Malik Kovar, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Madisonville now has a losing record of 13-14-1. As for Rusk, they now have a winning record of 12-11.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Madisonville is set to challenge their familiar foe Palestine at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Rusk will face off against rival Center at 7:00 p.m. on the 25th.
