Softball Game Preview: Cordova Lancers vs. West Park Panthers

The Cordova Lancers will head out on the road to square off against the West Park Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cordova has given up an average of 10.1 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Cordova came up short against Antelope on Tuesday, falling 15-5.

Jazmyn Glenn made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. T'Lou O'Daol also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when West Park challenged Kennedy on Tuesday. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Cougars. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

Emma Juarez made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off eight hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jolene White, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Vivianna Martinez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

West Park lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

West Park now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Cordova, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Cordova hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like West Park struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs.
