Football Recap: Cahokia Makes It Six in a Row on the Road

Cahokia won the last time they faced Collinsville and things went their way on Friday too. The Comanches blew past the Kahoks 34-14. The Comanches might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by 20 points or more this season.

Nigel Gooden had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 70 yards and one TD, while also throwing for 187 yards and one touchdown. Those 70 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Cahokia was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 220 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 191 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Cahokia didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Donald Collier and Steveland Kidd. Cahokia got some further help from Malik Mazyun: he made 18 total tackles.

Cahokia pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 12.2 points on average over those games. As for Collinsville, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cahokia will host Sycamore at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Comanches will be up against the Spartans' rather soft defense (which has allowed 28.5 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Collinsville, they will be playing at home against Triad at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
