Baseball Game Preview: Denver City Mustangs vs. Compass Academy

The Denver City Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against Compass Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Denver City is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

On Saturday, Denver City didn't have quite enough to beat Roswell and fell 9-8. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Denver City saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jonathan Martinez, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.

Martinez wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Denver City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Compass Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They came up short against Brownfield, falling 14-3. The contest marked Compass Academy's lowest-scoring game so far this season.

KASON TRAVIS was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two RBI.

Denver City's loss dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Compass Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-3.

Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Denver City hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .353. However, it's not like Compass Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .313. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Denver City skirted past Compass Academy 6-5 in their previous matchup on March 6th. The rematch might be a little tougher for Denver City since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
