Softball Recap: Pilgrim Takes Down Ranked East Providence

Pilgrim faced East Providence in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Patriots' pitcher stepped up to hand the Townies a 4-0 shutout. The Patriots haven't had any issues with the Townies recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Gretchen Dombeck was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Marin Prest was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Madison Tuirok was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Pilgrim hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in four consecutive games.

Pilgrim's record now sits at 17-5. As for East Providence, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12.

As of now, neither Pilgrim nor the Townies have any future games scheduled.
