Basketball Game Preview: Corning Cardinals vs. Live Oak Lions

A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cardinals take on the Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Live Oak took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Corning, who comes in off a win.

Corning took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Las Plumas 45-42. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cardinals have posted since December 8, 2023.

Jeff Mendros continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 7-for-16 to rack up 18 points. The game was his sixth in a row with at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaidan Raker, who posted 11 points.

Meanwhile, Live Oak was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They were outmatched by Oroville and fell 69-22. The contest marked the Lions' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Live Oak's defeat dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Corning, they now have a winning record of 13-12.

Corning took their victory against Live Oak when the teams last played back in January by a conclusive 64-39. The rematch might be a little tougher for Corning since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
