Recap: Yutan Chieftains vs. Conestoga Cougars
The Yutan Chieftains came tearing into Friday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 58-13 victory over Conestoga. Yutan's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Yutan was led to victory by Amelia Dieckman and Jade Lewis. Dieckman scored 14 points along with nine rebounds, while Lewis scored 18 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Dieckman also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. Jenna Benjamin was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Conestoga struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Yutan racked up 11 assists.
Yutan pushed their record up to 5-1 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.7 points per game. As for Conestoga, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.
Yutan has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Raymond Central at 6:00 p.m. on December 19th. Raymond Central will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. Conestoga will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Fort Calhoun at 6:00 p.m. on December 18th. Hopefully Fort Calhoun focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 on Saturday.
