Basketball Recap: Abby Powell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mt. Vernon over Eastern Greene

Mt. Vernon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 15th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 32-28 heartbreaker at the hands of the Eastern Greene Thunderbirds.

Mt. Vernon lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Abby Powell, who posted six points. Hannah McNeece was another key player, putting up four points along with five assists and three steals.

Mt. Vernon's loss dropped their record down to 0-14. As for Eastern Greene, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Mt. Vernon and Carmi-White County will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 7:30 p.m. on January 8, 2025. As for Eastern Greene, they will head out to challenge North Daviess at 12:00 p.m. on January 4, 2025. Eastern Greene is facing North Daviess at the right time seeing as North Daviess is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
