Recap: Aztec Tigers vs. Shiprock Chieftains

The Aztec Tigers waltzed into their match on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They snuck past Shiprock with a 32-27 win. That's another feather in the cap for Aztec, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Aztec to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jazzlyn Gomez, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Gomez hasn't dropped below three steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Nika Mckenzie, who scored seven points along with five steals.

Aztec's win bumped their record up to 12-10. As for Shiprock, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-13.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Aztec will take on Kirtland Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Aztec is on a four-game streak of home wins, Kirtland Central a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Shiprock, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Gallup at 7:00 p.m. on February 12th. Shiprock will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Mexico Rankings (they are ranked 80th, while Gallup is ranked 12th).
