Basketball Recap: North Side Takes a Loss

North Side played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Arlington Heights Yellowjackets and fell 104-37. While losing is never fun, the Steers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1268th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 283rd).

Despite the defeat, North Side had strong showings from Deion Malone, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 16 points in addition to six boards and four steals, and Trustin Holland, who posted six points. That's the most steals Malone has posted since back in November of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Arlington Heights to victory, but perhaps none more so than Da?Marcus Jones, who went 5 for 10 en route to 14 points and eight steals. Jones has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaeden Grant, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 12 points along with six assists and five rebounds.

North Side has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season. As for Arlington Heights, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-12.

North Side will head out on the road to face off against Wyatt at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Side is facing Wyatt at the right time seeing as Wyatt is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Arlington Heights, they will host Paschal at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Arlington Heights' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 11 matches.
