Baseball Recap: Avon Lake Wins Going Away Against Olmsted Falls

Avon Lake barely beat Olmsted Falls the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Shoremen were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Bulldogs on Monday. Considering the Shoremen have won five matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Brayden Poltrone spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Avon Lake is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 4-6 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Adam McFadden, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Alex Hicov was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

Avon Lake's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Olmsted Falls, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.

Avon Lake will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bulldogs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
