Basketball Recap: Connor Summer's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Boone over University

Boone was the 66-55 winner over University when they last played one another last Thursday, but their luck changed this time around. The Boone Braves fell to the University Cougars 68-62. While losing is never fun, the Braves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 241st, while the Cougars are ranked 118th).

Boone lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Connor Summer, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 19 points and seven rebounds. Summer's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Makauri Massey, who posted 11 points.

University got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Hudson Maurer out in front who went 6 for 10 en route to 21 points. Maurer continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Kyle Bailey was another key player, going 5 of 10 on his way to 22 points and six boards.

Boone has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 32.9% in those games and 0% outside of them. As for University, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-5.

Boone wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 60-26 win against Innovation on the 17th. University has also already played their next game, a 65-62 victory against Jones on the 15th.
